Are you a family member or an ancestor in one of the 100's of pictures?

Over the past 150 years, Enfield, the northernmost district of London, has seen significant transformation. This once-market town in Middlesex is now firmly part of the huge conurbation that surrounds London. Growing into a significant industrial hub, Eastern Enfield was best known for its radio valves, electric stoves and cookers, and, most importantly, the renowned Lee Enfield gun. In contrast, the neighbourhood around Enfield Town is pleasant residential, while the Green Belt-protected northwest edges are still primarily rural. Enfield is a fascinating history of the neighbourhood that shows, in great detail, how Enfield was absorbed by London. It does this by using over 220 photos from the 1860s through the 1960s.
