This book is a pictorial account of the remarkable early
successes, wretched decline and triumphant
resurrection of Bury Football Club. Within these covers are
over 200 high—quality images — including action shots, team
groups, player—portraits, cartoons and programme covers —
that together provide a flavour of the past of this unique
club and its distinguished football heritage.
Amongst the memorabilia selected by Peter Cullen — the
club’s programme editor and official historian — are images
from the early days of the club, including: rare Victorian
team photographs, a wealth of material from the glory days
in the old First Division and, of course, the two FA Cups
during the first decade of the twentieth century. Although
Bury FC’s major honours came early on in the club’s history,
Peter's selection contains items from all the way through the
not~so-successful times right up until the astonishing revival
in the club’s fortunes that saw them propel themselves up
two divisions in as many seasons and re~establish themselves
in Division Qne.
This book is essential reading for anyone who is
interested in the Shakers, whether they are long—term
supporters or relatively new followers of the side. It is an
excellent book to cover a team with such a long, fine
football tradition.
