LEN SHACKLETON
THE CLOWN PRINCE OF SOCCER
Football Memory Greeting Card
MORE THAN A GREETING CARD
A Football Memory to Keep
A greeting card, a fine-art football print and a record of someone's football life — all in one.
Featuring a fine-art portrait of Sunderland legend Len Shackleton,
together with a reproduction of his original autograph, this unique
SoccerBooks Football Memory Greeting Card has been designed
to be enjoyed today and treasured by the family for generations.
The front has deliberately been kept free from printed greetings and club badges.
This allows the artwork to stand on its own and, once the card has been completed,
the fine-art front can be framed as a lasting piece of football history.
“The footballer on the front has a story to tell.
So do you”
YOUR FOOTBALL MEMORIES
Inside is something very different from an ordinary football greeting card.
The recipient is invited to answer 30 carefully chosen questions,
recording not only their football memories, but something of the person behind them.
Memories include:
Their first football team
Their first match — and who took them
Their first football hero
The position they played
Their first football shirt or kit
Their first pair of football boots — and who bought them
The first FA Cup Final they remember
The first World Cup they remember
Alongside the football questions are memories of childhood, parents, brothers
and sisters, school, pets, music, family life and other moments that help tell
their story.
The facing page carries our specially written
“Especially for You” keepsake poem, explaining why
these seemingly small memories can become so precious to future generations.
LEN SHACKLETON — THE CLOWN PRINCE OF SOCCER
The reverse of the card tells the story of one of English football's great entertainers.
From Shackleton's extraordinary six-goal Newcastle debut and his move to Sunderland
for a then British-record £20,050, through to his England career
and his reputation as football's great showman, the card provides a permanent record
of the man behind the artwork.
It also recalls one of football literature's most celebrated jokes. Chapter Nine
of his 1955 autobiography, Clown Prince of Soccer, was entitled
“The Average Director's Knowledge of Football”
— followed by a completely blank page.
