Carlisle United

Carlisle United's story began on May 17, 1904, when Shaddongate United members voted to change their team's name at an annual general meeting. The club joined the Lancashire Combination in 1905, marking the start of their competitive journey. Through the decades, they've experienced the highs and lows of English football, with their most notable achievement coming in 1974 when they reached the First Division (now Premier League) - making them the smallest city to ever have a team in England's top flight. They've been particularly successful in cup competitions, reaching the Football League Trophy final six times - more than any other team - and winning it twice (1997 and 2011). In November 2023, the club entered a new era under American ownership when Castle Sports Group took control. Currently competing in League Two, Carlisle United continues to represent England's northernmost professional football club, playing their home games at Brunton Park, their home since 1909.
