Pelham Books Ltd – Football Publishing History
Pelham Books Ltd was established in 1959 and became one of Britain's notable specialist publishers of sporting books. Its football list included autobiographies, coaching and refereeing books, club histories, annuals and works featuring some of the greatest names in the game, including Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, George Best, Jimmy Greaves, Alan Ball, Trevor Brooking, Glenn Hoddle and Alan Mullery.
Pelham's football publishing was particularly prolific during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. During the 1990s the Pelham publishing operation became absorbed into the wider Michael Joseph/Penguin publishing structure and the Pelham name gradually disappeared as an active sporting-book imprint.
Soccerbooks.co.uk has researched the history of Pelham Books and compiled a collector's bibliography of its football publications from 1959–1994. The bibliography is an ongoing research project and will be updated as further Pelham titles and publication details are discovered.
